Introduction / Families / Stevenson George Stevenson and Charlotte CorrigalGeorge Stevenson (b. 19th May 1800) was a son of George Stevenson and Isabella Sinclair. While George was born on Pharay, he probably lived most of his life on Eday, going there perhaps in the mid 1820s. He married Charlotte Corrigal in Kirkwall on 3rd November 1825. Charlotte was a daughter of Magnus Corrigal and Ann Linay and born in Tankerness on 10th October 1800. Their eight children were all born in Eday:
From Eday rentals, it appears that the family were at Windywa from when they got married. They were also there in 1841 when George’s occupation is given as agricultural labourer / fisherman. The 1851 census indicates that they were at Maltbarn. This census indicates that George was born on Pharay.
It is not know what became of children Ann, Mary and William after 1851. Jane was with her parents at Windywa in 1861 as was Isabella and her son, John Stevenson. There is no record of George and Charlotte in Eday in 1871 and nothing further is known about them. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
