Elizabeth Gray and David Rendall

p>Elizabeth Gray (b. 9th November 1864), the third child of Robert Gray and Elizabeth Leslie, was staying with her parents at Longbigging, in Westray when she married David Rendall (b. 9th March 1861) from Ha'breck in July 1887. Elizabeth was a domestic servant.

David was the son of farmer William Rendall and Christina Meil and was a fisherman.

In 1891, they were at No 2 Broughton Place with their first two children. They were to have seven:

  • Elizabeth Leslie Rendall b. 20th November 1887 who died on 21st December 1888 of whooping cough
  • William Rendall b. 13th January 1889
  • Christina Meil Rendall b. 13th November 1890
  • Robert Gray Rendall b. 8th January 1892
  • David Malcolm Stewart Rendall b. 26th February 1897 who died on 5th November of whooping cough
  • Malcolm Stewart Rendall b. 23rd June 1898
  • David Rendall b. 6th April 1901

The first two children had been born at Ha'breck and the next two a Broughton Place. The family then moved to nearby Millhouse and by 1901, David was head miller.

David Rendall died of tuberculosis on 20th June 1927 at Pierowall.
