George Gray and Jane Logie

George Gray (b. 24th May 1868) was the fourth of the six children of Robert Gray and Elizabeth Leslie. He was born at Longbigging on Westray and gave it as his place of residence when he married Janet Logie (b. 25th June 1871) in 1891.

Janet was the daughter of farmer George Logie and Isabella Muir from Lochend in the Dykeside district of Westray. Janet was with her parents at the time of the 1891 census and her occupation was given as general servant.

George was a seaman and isn't recorded in the Westray census for 1891 or 1901.

Two children of George Gray and Jane Logie were born at Lochend:

  • Robert Gray b. 24th March 1892 who married Jean Harcus, the daughter of David Harcus and Elizabeth Stevenson from Gill Pier. He died on 2nd December 1942. They had family.
  • Isabella Muir Gray b. 14th November 1895 and died 2nd August 1917.

Janet Logie died at Lochend on 26th December 1914. George Gray died there just over two years later on 2nd March 1917. He had tuberculosis. The epidemic also claimed their daughter, Isabella Gray, later that year.
