Margaret Drever and William Drever

Margaret Dreve was the oldest of the three children of Jane Gray and John Drever. She was born at Roadside, Westray on 6th January 1875 and moved with the family to Millhouse where her father was miller.

She was with her parents at Helzie at the time of the 1901 census. She was then twenty six and her occupation was given as dressmaker.

Margaret Drever emigrated to Racine, Wisconsin in 1902 where she met and married William Drever (b. 6th Jul 1876), who was also from Westray. He was the son of William Drever and Betsy Miller from Sangar and had emigrated in 1898. He got work as a general labourer.

Margaret and William married around 1903 and at the time of the 1910 he census was working as a brass founder.

That census indicated that they had had one child that had died. The household also included William's brothers:

1910 - Racine, Wisconsin Age Immigrated
John Drever 22 years 1907
James Drever 18 years 1910
Thomas Drever 16 years 1910

Quite a number of the Drevers from Westray emigrated to Racine.

In 1920, William Drever was a brass foundry moulder. The household then included his cousin, William Miller (age 28), who had emigrated in 1919.
