Introduction / William Gray and Mary Robertson / David Gray and Ann Harcus Ann Gray and James FoulisAnn Gray married James Foulis with the marriage taking place in Papay on 19th September 1883. They already had a daughter and a son was born not that long afterwards. James was the son of John George Foulis and Margaret Thomson. He worked at various jobs during his life. In the 1881 census he is a farm servant at Vestness. In 1901, he was a general labourer. We see him recorded as a marine stoker at the time of his second marriage and later again he was a general labourer for a milling company. He lost a hand in an accident with farm machinery and after that he is recorded as a storesman for the company. The family moved to Kirkwall about 1884 and remained there. They had the following children:
Ann Gray died on 12th November 1915, at their son, James's farm on Flotta. Her husband, James Foulis, remarried her younger sister, Isabella Gray. | |||
