William Lennie and Eliza Matches

William Lennie was the son of William Lennie and Eliza Heddle, and was born in Kirkwall about 1876. He married Eliza Matches (born about 1868) in Kirkwall in 1896.

They are known to have had at least three children:

• Rose Annie Matches Lennie, born in 1897

• Evangeline Lennie, born in 1899. She died in Kirkwall in 1905, at the age of 6 years.

• Robert Heddle Lennie, born in 1902. He signed the Death registration for his uncle James Lennie in 1943, and for his father in 1952; in both cases, his address was in Kirkwall. A Robert Heddle Lennie married Rhoda Smith in Stromness in 1928, and it seems likely that it was this man.

William died in Kirkwall on 12th December 1952. His Death registration gave his occupation as "Storekeeper (Retired)", and indicated that his wife survived him.
