Janet Gullion and Adam Benston

Janet Gullion, the daughter of James Gullion and Janet Scott, was baptised on 21st August 1835. Janet's brothers either died young or immigrated to North America, but Janet remained in Eday. She worked in domestic service and gave birth to a daughter Janet or Mary on 23rd April 1865.

Following the death of her parents in 1875 Janet and her daughter immigrated to Pierce County, Washington State where her brother William was living. There Janet married Adam Benston, his second wife, on 24th June 1877. Adam, born 19th November 1823, was the son of Adam Benston (b. 1809) and Jean Begg. Adam and Janet had a son James born in 1877 and died in 1900. Janet died 7th June 1899 and is buried in Old Settler Cemetery (Gravelly Cemetery) in Pierce County.

Janet's daughter Janet (Jeanette) married John G. Barnes about 1881. They lived in Pierce County and had a family of eight children. She died 28th April 1944, in Tacoma.
