Isabella Dunnet and Robert Harcus

Isabella Dunnet, daughter of William Dunnet of St. Andrews, Orkney and Isabella Gullion of Eday was baptised in the parish of Eday on 1st July 1846.  Her family later moved to Harray and there she married Robert Harcus of Cott, Calfsound, Eday on 3rd December 1867.  Robert, born on 24th June 1844 in Eday, (and baptized one month later on 24th July) was the son of William Harcus and Isabella Rendall.  Isabella and Robert had three known children:

  •  Ann Dunnet Harcus, b. 18th Aug 1870 who married first, Thomas Heddle McLachlan and second, James Heddle Taylor.

The family was living at West Blett, Calfsound in 1881 and Robert was a fisherman. By 1891 the family had moved to Kirkwall where Robert was initially a boatman sailing R. Garden’s floating shop around Orkney and Shetland.  Later he ran Garden’s grocery shop in St. Catherine’s Place, Kirkwall.   Isabella died on 11th Dec 1904 at Garden’s Buildings, St. Catherine’s Place, Kirkwall.  Robert died in Kirkwall 21st June 1908.  Both are buried in St. Magnus churchyard.
