James Drever and Mary Ann Muir

James Drever (b. 19th April 1848) was the third of the six children of Thomas Drever and Jane Groat. He married Mary Ann Muir (b. 20th June 1854) in Leith on 25th May 1877. Mary was the daughter of Peter Muir and Sarah Harris. Mary’s family came from Colvend, Kirkcubright.

They emigrated to Port Adelaide, South Australia after their marriage, going first to Hoyleton and then Streakey Bay, near James’s brother Thomas Drever who had also emigrated. Their youngest brother, David Drever, had been the first to emigrate to the area.

Their first two daughters were born at Holyton. The elder died when she was two and the second died as an infant or toddler. There were another six children and a further still born in 1892:

  • Thomas David Drever b. 1881 who was a rancher, near Streakey Bay, and died in 1958. He had four of a family.
  • Bella Drever. She had seven children and died in 1957.
  • Mary Drever b. about 1885 and lived a Blackhall, Queensland. She had two children.
  • James H Drever b. 1887 who lived at Streakey Bay and subsequently Croydon, South Australia.
  • Peter Drever who died at the age of twenty four
  • John Drever b. 1890. He married and had eight children.

Mary died in Australia in 1892 and James in 1929.
