Jane Drever and George Seatter

Jane Drever (b. 21st January 1868) was the third of the five children of Thomas Drever and Margaret Garrioch. She moved with the family from Eday to Kirkwall in the late 1860s.

She married George Seatter (b. 4th March 1854) from Westray at St Magnus Villa in Kirkwall on 20th May 1898. At the time, she was a servant in Firth. Her sister, Helen Drever, was a witness to the marriage. George Seatter was a son of John Seatter and Barbara Seatter.

George and Jane lived at the Old Manse in the West Side of Westray and had three children:

  • George William Seatter b. 13th June 1899. George died on 4th January 1900.
  • George Seatter b. 16th October 1900 who married Barbara Hutchison Leslie (b. 17th April 1904) in December 1927. Barbara’s parents were Robert Drever Gray Leslie and Mary Jane Wilson and her paternal grandmother, Mary Drever, was brought up at Quoy on Pharay. The Leslie family were to have a number of links to Pharay. George and Barbara stayed at the Old Manse where he farmed and had family. George died on 9th January 1977 and Barbara on 13th June 1997. She was ninety three.
  • John Thomas Seatter b. 20th November 1907. He was a joiner and died at the Old Manse on 20th August 1991, aged eighty three. He was unmarried.

George died at the Old Manse on 13th December 1930 and Jane three years later on 14th January 1934.
