Thomas Burgher and Elizabeth (Betsy) Seatter

Thomas Burgher was the son of Robert Burgher and Elizabeth Harcus and born in Westray on 1st July 1810. They were from Geldibest

On 18th December 1841, he married Betsy Seatter (c. 9th June 1812) from Twiness, Westray, who was the daughter of James Seatter and Catherine Rendall.

They had two children born in Westray:

• Catherine Burgher / Burgar, c 14th August 1842 who married Thomas Drever

• Robert Burgess / Burgar, b. 2nd September 1844 who married Elizabeth Harcus

The family moved to Cott around 1850. Stewart Drummond and Jean Drever were also staying at Cott at this time although they had moved to Holland by 1861.

Thomas died in Kirkwall on 30th April 1859 and is interred in the Cross Kirk cemetery in Westray. Betsy died at Cott on 20th September 1893.
