Introduction / Families / Seatter

James Seator and Clara Margaret Harcus

James Alexander Seator, (b. 1923 on Egilsay) was the son of Edward Seator and Georgina Alexander. James’ father was born on Egilsay, although his family had come from Westray. James married Clara Margaret Harcus, born 1919 to Angus Harcus and Mary Jane Inkster. Clara was born on Eday but she had lived with her family at Rapness, Westray before they all went to Cott, Pharay. They were at Cott from about 1933 to 1938 when Clara and her brother went to Egilsay. Clara returned to Pharay after her marriage to James and they were at Holland from 1944 until the evacuation in 1947. It is believed that James had the first tractor on Pharay. When evacuated they went to Rousay and were at Brendale, later they went to Stenness. James and Clara’s daughter born in 1945 was the last baby born on Pharay. They were to have a family of six.

Clara died 17th of March 1993, age 73, and James died in 2005, age 81. They are buried in the new cemetery at Stenness.
