Robert Reid and Elizabeth Hercus

Robert Reid (b. 11th July 1879) was a son of James Leslie Reid and Isabella Reid.

He moved with the family from Westray to Holland, Pharay in the mid to late 1880s and married Elizabeth Hercus of Doggerboat at Cott on 21st August 1902.

Elizabeth (b. 1880) was the daughter of Peter Hercus and Margaret Drever. Her father died when she was only seven and she was raised by her aunt and uncle, Eliza Hercus and Robert Burgar.

Robert was one of the Pharay Heroes. He and Elizabeth lived at Holland until about 1925 when they moved to Garth in Westray with Robert’s parents. Robert and Elizabeth had four children.

Robert was a farmer and died on 23rd January 1948. He was sixty eight. Elizabeth died on 2nd September 1970, also on Westray.
