Pharay Heroes

The five men who manned the boat that rescued the crew of the "Hope" were recognised as the Pharay Heroes: Robert Reid, Holland; William Burgar, Cott; James Groat, Lakequoy; John Hercus, Doggerboat; and John Drever*, Windywa.

They received public acclaim and at the end of September 1909 were presented with medals by King Edward VIII at Balmoral Castle.
