William Sinclair and Mary Groat

William Sinclair (b. 15th January 1810) was the eldest son of Robert Sinclair and Jane Drever at Windywa. He married Mary Groat (b. 12th September 1809) on 15th March 1836. Mary was the daughter of Robert Groat and Janet Guthrie from Quoy in the north end of Pharay.

They stayed at Windywa and were there at both the 1841 and 1851 censuses. By 1851, William’s parents had moved to Green in Eday. William and Mary had followed them at least by the time of the 1861 census. William died there on 21st May 1866 at the age of fifty seven.

No record has been found of any children.

Mary was at Lakequoy in Pharay at the time of the 1891 census, in the household of her nephew James Groat. She died on 22nd June 1893 at Hill, one of the houses at Lakequoy.
