Introduction / Families / Sinclair / William Sinclair / Robert Sinclair and Jane Drever / Robert Sinclair and Mary Reid Robert Sinclair and Annie FosterRobert Sinclair (b. 6th March 1867) was the eldest son of Robert Sinclair and Mary Reid. He emigrated with the family from Eday in 1884. During his first year, he went to Regina and worked for $27 per month. He worked out in the summertime and spent the winter back with his parents. In Spring 1885 at the time of the Riel Rebellion when the native people were joining the Metis, he joined the volunteers of the Home Guard with his brother, James Sinclair. As a result of this, they were granted a military bounty land warrant. Robert married Annie Foster of Saltcoats, Saskatchewan in 1905 and left the Orkney district and settled on a land claim some four miles to the west of Yorkton. They called their farm “Glen Orkney” and were the first there to raise turkeys. They had five children. Robert was interested in education and the training of the children and involved in the organising and building of the St Magnus School. He was on the school board. Robert was also involved in the church, including the building of the St Andrews Church and was later elected as an elder. Robert died in an accident on 23rd July 1930. He’d been trying to undermine a large rock in the field and it fell on top of him. Annie moved away to Saltcoats with the family and died on 29th January 1953. They are both buried in Yorkton City Cemetery. | |||
