Margaret Harcus and Robert Rousay

Margaret Harcus (b. about 1835) was a daughter of Robert Harcus and Margaret Shearer of Luan, Eday.

She married Robert Rousay (b. 14th January 1830) on 17th March 1864 at Luan, Rendall. Robert was the son of Peter Rousay and Jane Hutchison. Robert’s sister, Margaret Rousay, had married Margaret’s brother, Robert Harcus, two years earlier.

Margaret and Robert had four children who were born in Eday:

• Margaret Rousay, born 9th July 1866 who married William Reid

• Robert Rousay, born 18th September 1868, who married (1) Mary Jane Reid and (2) Elizabeth Garry

• Peter Rousay, born 21st May 1871 who married Mary Ann Black. Mary was born in November 1880, possibly in Scotland. Peter died on 8th September 1927 and Mary on 14th July 1962, both in Yorkton, Saskatchewan.

• Jane Rousay, born 8th November 1873 who married John William Arthur Apperley

They stayed at Rowa, Eday. Robert was a crofter / fisherman.

Margaret died on 10th June 1877.

Robert emigrated to Yorkton, Saskatchewan in fall 1891 along with son Peter and daughters, Margaret and Jane. Son Robert had emigrated there two years previously.

He died there on 15th February 1914.
