Introduction / Families / Stevenson / George Stevenson and Charlotte Corrigal / Charlotte Stevenson and Robert Reid William Stevenson Reid and Alice Margaret Traill RendallWilliam Stevenson Reid (b. 21st June 1871) was the youngest of the five children of Robert Reid and Charlotte Stevenson. He emigrated to York Colony, NWT with his widowed mother and brothers Robert and James in 1883. He went to Regina High School and graduated with a BA from the University of Manitoba in Winnipeg and a BD from Wesley College. Both were first class honours. In 1925 he graduated from the University of Chicago with the highest honours as Doctor of Sacred Theology. In 1930 he was recognised by United College, Winnipeg when the degree of Doctor of Divinity (Honoris Causa) was conferred. William married Alice Margaret Traill Rendall (b. 20th August 1869) in 1901. Alice was the daughter of William Rendall and Margaret Foubister. Alice’s older sister, Ida Estella Rae Rendall, had married William’s elder brother, John Flaws Reid in 1886. William and Alice had three children:
He held charges in Saskatchewan, Manitoba, Ontario and British Columbia. At thirty nine, he was possibly the youngest president of the Saskatchewan Conferences and was a delegate to the General Conference of the Methodist Church and General Council of the United Church. While at the Methodist Church in Yorkton, William was also pastor for the curling club and curled. He died on 21st January 1947 and is buried at the Capital View Cemetery, West Vancouver.
