The landowner was told to survey the surrounding land for lots for a town and to name the town. Accordingly, four local residents, all originally from Orkney, voted to name a town Orcadia in honour of the boat that brought the mail to the Orkney islands. A post office was established in 1905. The little village, in the middle of the York Colony, ultimately did not prosper and the post office was closed in 1965. The village no longer exists as such. | |||
