Robert Groat and Margaret Harcus

Robert Groat was born on 16th February and baptised on 8th March 1831, the son of Robert Groat and Elizabeth Harcus (Hercus) from Lakequoy. On 18th December 1856, he married his cousin Margaret Hercus at Doggerboat. Margaret was born about 1834 or 1835 at the Ness. Margaret was a daughter of John Harcus and Jane Drummond. She was listed as age 5 in the 1841 census.

Robert and Margaret were cousins through Robert's mother, Elizabeth Harcus (Hercus) and Margaret's father, John Harcus, being siblings

Margaret and Robert had a daughter:

• Margaret Groat, b. 29th November 1857 who married her cousin, David Hercus

Margaret died at Quoy, Pharay on 14th January 1859, at the very young age of 23. Robert was a fisherman, and he died on 13th September1872 of heart disease.
