Introduction / Westray Grays / Early Gray Families / Isabella Gray and William Robertson / Barbara Robertson and David Manson / Ann Traill Manson and Robert Rendall Barbara Rendall and George RendallBarbara Rendall (b. 3rd October 1851) was the first child of Robert Rendall and Ann Manson. She was staying with her family at Nether Ouseness in Westray when she married George Rendall from West Swanson on 5th December 1879. George Rendall (b. 16th July 1861) was the son of George Rendall and Sarah Yorston. He was Barbara's first cousin through their father's side of their respective families. Both were farm servants. Barbara was twenty eight when they got married and George eighteen. Barbara had had a child before they married:

Their first child was born at Ouseness. The second was born at East Swanson where they were the time of the 1881 census when the family comprised the parents and sons, George and John Rendall. George's occupation then is given as an agricultural labourer. The family moved to Kirkwall where their fourth son, William Rendall was born in 1886. This was in Shore Street. By the time of the 1891 census, the family was living in nearby Bridge Street Wynd. George Rendall was a merchant seaman and not there at the time of the census.
By 1901, they had moved just marginally up the street to Albert Street. George's occupation is now given as fisherman.
