Ann Traill Manson and Robert Rendall

Ann Traill Manson was the daughter of David Manson and his wife Barbara Robertson, and was christened in Westray on 4th January 1824. Her date of birth as given on her gravestone inscription is 22nd December 1824; probably it was actually 22nd December 1823.

She married Robert Rendall, the son of William Rendall and Francis Craigie, in Westray on 28th December 1850. They had eight children:

• Barbara Rendall, b. 3rd October 1851. She married her first cousin George Rendall.

• Mary Rendall, b. 16th July 1853.

• Robert Rendall, b. about 1855.

• Ann Rendall, b. 20th August 1857.

• John Craig Rendall, b. 4th October 1859.

• Francis Craigie Rendall, b. 1st August 1862.

• John David Manson Rendall, b. 3rd November 1864.

• William Gullion Rendall, b. 19th October 1870.

Ann and Robert were at Nether Ousness, Westray, in the 1851-1891 censuses. Below is a chart showing their household in the 1871 census.

Ann died on 13th January 1894, and Robert on 21st November 1896. They are buried on Westray, and their gravestone inscription reads:
