John Craig Rendall and Jean Robertson

John Craig Rendall (b. 4th October 1859) was the fifth of the eight children of Ann Manson and Robert Rendall. He was born and brought up at Nether Ouseness in Westray.

He married Jean Robertson (b. about 1861) from North Rendall in Papa Westray around 1882. Jean was the daughter of farmer Nicol Robertson and Margaret Miller. She was a dressmaker according to the 1881 census when she was with her parents on Papa Westray.

John Rendall and Jean Robertson were to spend their life at North Rendall. They were to have two sons and two daughters:

• Margaret Manson Rendall b. 1st February 1883 who married Benjemin Miller. They had family.

• Annie Manson Rendall b. 22nd December 1884 who married James Irvine. They had no family.

• Robert Rendall b. 20th January 1887 who married Margaret Jane Allan

• George Rendall b. 24th December 1891

Three of their family were with them at North Rendall at the time of the 1901 census.

John Craig Rendall died on 12th June 1942 at the age of eighty two.
