Mary Gray Logie and James Reid

Mary Gray Logie was the daughter of Mary Gray and Thomas Logie, and was born in Westray 12th October 1848.

She married James Reid (born about 1843, son of Richard Reid and May Rendall) in Westray on 12th September 1867. They had three daughters, all born in Westray:

  • Mary Rendall, born 26th October 1894, lived only two months
  • Mary Logie Rendall, born 1st June 1896. She married William Stevenson in 1920 and died at Westbreck on 3rd December 1938 at the age of 42.
  • Jeannie Drever Henry Rendall, born 27th July 1899. She married John Harcus and died on 18th November 1978 at the age of 79.

  • Mary Reid, b. 2nd June 1869. She married John Rendall.
  • May Reid, b. 24th April 1872
  • Thomima Logie Reid, b. 2nd October 1882. She married Murdoch Bews and died at Grindley, Westray, on 18th October 1916.

Mary and James and their daughters were at Skail with Mary's parents in the 1871 and 1881 censuses. By 1891 Mary's mother had died and her father had retired, and in the census that year the family was at Westbreck.

Mary died at Westbreck, Westray, on 2 Nov. 1901. James died there more than twenty years later, on 18th February 1922.
