Mary Reid and John Rendall

Mary Reid was born 2nd June 1869, the eldest daughter of James Reid and his wife Mary Gray Logie. In the 1871 and 1881 censuses she is found at Skail, Westray, with her parents and maternal grandparents. By the 1891 census, when she was 21 years old, the family had moved to Westbreck, Westray. Mary's occupation at that time was "General servant domestic".

In December 1893, Mary married John Rendall (born 29th August, 1873, son of George Rendall and Jane Drever). They are known to have had three daughters:

• Mary Rendall, born 26th October 1894, lived only two months

• Mary Logie Rendall, born 1st June 1896. She married William Stevenson in 1920 and died at Westbreck on 3rd December 1938 at the age of 42.

• Jeannie Drever Henry Rendall born 27th July 1899. She married John Harcus and died on 18th November 1978 at the age of 79.

In the 1901 census, Mary and John and their two daughters were living next door to her parents at Westbreck.

John Rendall died on 19th May 1952, at the age of 78 years. Mary died at Quoyer, Westray, seven months later, on 22nd December 1952, aged 83 years.
