Louisa Rendall and William Thomson

Lousia Rendall (b. 27th March 1842) was the sixth of the eight known children of John Rendall and Margaret Lennie. She was with the family at Quoynabreckan in the Aikerness district of Westray in 1861.

She married William Thomson (b. 17th September 1844), a farm servant at Trenaby, on 27th February 1862. He was the son of David Thomson and Janet Bews.

They had two children who were both born at Quoynabreckan:

  • Margaret Lennie Thomson b. 12th October 1862
  • Christina Thomson b. 9th July 1864 who married William Rendall (b. 23rd June 1863) a farm servant at Skaill in October 1884. He was a son of George Rendall and Sarah Yorston.

Louisa Rendall was to die less than two years later on 3rd February 1866.

Note the slight discrepancy with the date of death. Louisa was not quite twenty four.

William Thomson remarried Louisa's cousin Margaret Rendall on 5th May 1870. Margaret's mother Marjory Lennie was a sister of Louisa's mother, Margaret Lennie.

William Thomson died of pneumonia just under four years later on 20th April 1874. His occupation was given as seaman. He was just twenty nine years old.
