William Allan and Jane Foulis

William was baptised on 8th February 1842, the oldest child born to John Scott Allan and Euphemia Harcus. In 1861 he was a servant at Gestaquoy. Thereafter William moved to Papay Westray and he married there, on 24th January 1868, Jane Foulis of Skennist. William and Jane had seven children, all born on Papay:

  • Margaret Foulis Allan, b. 15th Oct 1869, d. 8 Sept 1884
  • John Allan, b. 15th June 1871 Skennist, who married Mary Ann Williamson
  • Jane Ann Allan, b. 20th Mar 1874, who married William Scollay, 1902
  • William Allan, b. 22nd July 1876, Skennist, who married Mary Mason on 7th Feb 1902
  • Mary Allan, b. 30th June 1880, who married John Irvine in 1911
  • Euphemia Allan, b. 8th Sept 1882, Newbigging, who married Andrew Groat on 8th Nov 1912. She died on 16th Jan 1971.
  • Maggie Jane Allan, b. 4th Dec 1888 Newbigging, who married Robert Rendall on 22nd Nov 1912. She died on 22nd Jan 1962.

William and Jane had moved from Skennist to Newbigging by the 1881 census and William was a farmer of over 40 acres. Jane died on 14 April 1910, at age 67 years, 11 months. William died in 1912.
