Stewart Gullion Groat and Ann Drummond

Stewart Gullion Groat was born 30th December 1833 and baptised 21st March 1834, the third of seven children of Robert Groat and Elizabeth Harcus of Lakequoy. He married Ann Drummond on 23rd November 1854. Ann was the daughter of John Drummond and Janet Reid of the Ness. She was born on 20th September 1834. Stewart and Ann had six children born on Pharay:

• Robert Groat, b. 26th Jan 1855 who married Ann Tulloch

• Ann Stewart Groat, b. early 1857, d. 13th May 1857 at three months

• John Groat, b. 1st Aug 1858. He has not been found after the 1861 census and it is not known what became of him.

• Ann Stewart Groat, b. 21st June 1860 who married James Work

• Barbara Groat, b. 21st April 1861who married her cousin David Drever

• Stewart Groat, b. 31st July 1864 who was lodging at Greenbank, Eday in 1881 and was an apprentice. He married Barbara Peace and lived in New York City.

Stewart and Ann lived at Hill, one of the houses at Lakequoy. Stewart was a fisherman but unfortunately drowned at the young age of 31, on 12th April 1865, when his boat was upset in the Westray Firth. Ann died ten years later, 27th June 1875, at age 40, at Lakequoy.
