Mary Gullion and William Peace

Mary Gullion, the oldest child of William Gullion and Isabella Drever was baptised on Eday on 11th August 1821. She married William Peace, Eday, on 6th February 1845. William and Mary had four children:

  • Elizabeth Peace, b. abt 1845 who married James Shearer 11th Jan 1866. James, a fisherman, along with his father (also James) died by accidental drowning near Calfsound on 5th March 1867 when their fishing yawl sank. Neither of their bodies was recovered. Elizabeth died on 11th May 1870 at Benston Hall, Eday. James and Elizabeth had one child, a son also called James born a month after his father died on 6th Apr 1867. He also died young, in an accidental fall from the crags at Howan Ligham, Moul Head, Deerness where he was a farm servant, on 9th May 1886.
  • Mary Peace, c. 4th Nov 1854 who married William Miller of Stronsay about 1880. They were living on Shapinsay in 1881. In 1891 and 1901 they were living at Slab of Toab in St. Andrews. It appears that they had no children. Mary died in St. Andrews on 5th July 1903 at age 48. William was a farmer.

William was a farmer and fisherman. Mary died on 18th March 1871 at Benston Hall, age 49. William later married Ann Meil Reid, daughter of Thomas Reid and Margaret Gray, and widow of John Irvine.
