John James Rendall and Elizabeth Rendall

John James Rendall b. 8^th June 1879 was the youngest child of John Rendall and Mary Lennie Schollay. He married Elizabeth Rendall (b. 27^th September 1881) in 1899. She was the daughter of William Rendall and Elizabeth Bremner.

John's father died just before he was born. He was brought up at the home of his mother's parents. When his mother remarried, he continued to farm there at Balaclava.

John and Elizabeth had seven children born there:

• John William Schollay Rendall b. 16^th October 1900 who married Margaret Hutchison (b. 10^th December 1904) in 1928. She was the daughter of Jane Hutchison from Littlehouse. They had family in Westray. John died on 2^nd May 1969 at the age of sixty eight.

• Richard Reid Rendall b. 9^th December 1902 who married Barbara Fergus (b. 26^th May 1903) in 1927. She was the daughter of Thomas Fergus and Robina Harcus. They had a large family. Barbara died on 16^th October 1985 at Balaclava. Richard died there the following month on 29^th November 1985.

• Lizzie Jane Rendall b. 14^th February 1904 who married farmer William Groat (b. 1895) from Bisgoes in 1925. He was the son of John Groat and Maggie Kent. Lizzie died on 3^rd May 1939.

• Thomas Reid Rendall b. 14^th October 1905

• Ann Mary Rendall b. 23^rd October 1906

• George Reid Rendall b. 24^th November 1908

• Jessie Groat Rendall b. 17^th April 1910

John James Rendall died on 14^th February 1946 at the age of sixty six. Elizabeth Rendall died at Balaclava on 8^th January 1960. She was seventy eight.
