Thomas Dunbar and Mary Catherine McGuill

Thomas was the first of four children thought to be to Mary Tulloch and Thomas William Jones Dunbar. His birth at the Royal Maternity Hospital in Edinburgh on 30th January 1891 was registered as Thomas Tulloch but he subsequently adopted the Dunbar surname.

While born in Edinburgh, he moved with the family to Falkirk in the 1890s and was with his mother in Partick, Glasgow, with two of his siblings, by the 1911 census.

He was living in Anderson St, Partick when he married Mary Catherine McGuill (b. 1894, Kilbroney, County Down) in Johnstone, under the forms of the Roman Catholic Church. Mary was the daughter of James McGuill and Bridget Gorman.

At this time, Thomas was a ships’ cargo checker and Mary a bleachfield worker, living in Lochwinnoch.

They were to have nine of a family nine of a family, five daughters and four sons between 1917 and 1932.

Thomas died in Milton, Glasgow on 22nd December 1961 and Mary on 14th September 1968.
