Introduction / Westray Grays / Archibald Gray / Mary Ann Gray and John Tulloch / William Tulloch and Elizabeth Drever / John Tulloch and Jean Harcus Mary TullochMary Tulloch (b. 8th April 1865) was the third of the five children of John Tulloch and Jean Harcus. She was with her parents at Tuquoy, Westray in the 1871 census, age 5 years and was probably the 16-year old Mary Tulloch who was listed in the 1881 census as a servant at Salt Half. By 1891, she was cook in Edinburgh and staying in the flat of a Gourlay family. She had a two month old son.
The child’s father is thought to be Thomas William Jones Dunbar, an insurance agent from Dublin.
Mary and Thomas are understood to have had four children:
The children were all to adopt the Dunbar surname. The family moved from Edinburgh to Falkirk with William Dunbar seen as a tenant of at Garrison Place per the 1895/96 valuation roll. At the time of Edward’s birth, William was a gasworks employee. It is unclear where Mary and the family were at the time of the 1901 census but by 1911, she and the three oldest children were in Partick, Glasgow.
This was a two room flat in a red sandstone tenement. Edward Dunbar was with his father in Surrey at the time. Mary died at 6 Shandon St, Glasgow on 4th Oct 1956 at the age of 91. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
