Swartaback and Benziecott

The Leslies at Swartaback and Benziecott, Westray were branches of the family of James Leslie and Barbara Reid who were at Garth in 1841 and 1851. Brothers John Leslie and Daniel Leslie headed them respectively.

Those at Swartaback had a number of Pharay connections. Brothers John and Robert Leslie were in Pharay from the late 1930s, their mother was Mary Groat from Lakequoy in Pharay and their uncle’s Thomas and Daniel had wives with Pharay ancestry. Their second cousin, Henry Leslie from Benziecott, was at Holland in Pharay from a year or two earlier.
