Robert Stobie Drummond

Robert Stobie Drummond (b. 20th March 1837) was the eldest child of Stewart Drummond and Jean Drever. He was with the family at Cott and in 1861 following their move to Holland.

He married Ann Peace (b. 6th November 1836, Eday) at Carness, St Ola on 6th December 1861. Robert was a seaman. Ann was the daughter of John Peace and Mary Taylor. She died at Holland four months later on 7th April 1862, having been ill when she married.

Robert married for a second time on 22nd December 1864. His second wife was Janet Miller from East Hill, Papa Westray. She was the daughter of Peter Miller and Ann Omand. The Omands had moved from North Pharayhouse in Eday to Papa Westray some time after 1861.

They had a daughter who was born in Eday:

Robert and Janet emigrated to the US in 1869.

They were at Mount Pleasant, Racine Co., Wisconsin in 1870 when Robert was a day labourer. In 1880, he worked at a wagon shop and in 1900 he was a ward worker in Racine.

Janet died on 1st December 1919 and is interred in the Mound Cemetery, Racine.

Robert’s household at the time of the 1920 census included Janet Fraser, the widow of Robert’s cousin, David Drummond.

David died in Racine on 14th April 1931. He was ninety four. He also is interred in the Mound Cemetery.
