Introduction / Families / Stevenson / George Stevenson and Charlotte Corrigal / Charlotte Stevenson and Robert Reid James Garrioch Reid and Mary Jeanette WilliamsJames Garrioch Reid (b. 24th October 1866) was a son of Robert Reid and Charlotte Stevenson and born at Windywa, Eday. He emigrated to York Colony, NWT with his widowed mother and brothers Robert and William in 1883. During the Riel Rebellion, he was chased off his homestead. He spent some time working at the grist mill at York Colony. His cabin was destroyed by a prairie fire in the summer of 1886. He finally gave up his homestead in 1900 and, with his brother William Stevenson Reid, enrolled in the University of Manitoba. He graduated with a BA in Theology then went to Edinburgh to obtain an MA in Theology. On returning as a Presybterian minister, he held several charges in Saskatchewan before moving to British Columbia. He met and married Mary Jeanette Williams. James and Mary had five children who all married. His last charge was Gibsons in British Columbia. He died in 1940 and Mary in 1960. | |||
