James Rendall Logie

James Rendall Logie was the sixth known child, and second son, of George Logie and Ann Rendall, and was born at Heatherbank, Westray, on 28th October 1861.

He became a commercial or mercantile clerk, and married Isabella Johnston in Kirkwall on 9th December 1886. The couple are known to have had two children, both born in Kirkwall:

  • Adeline Mary Logie, born in 1889. She died in Kirkwall in 1908.
  • George William Logie, born 2nd March 1890

By the time that George William's birth was registered, on 18 March 1890, Isabella had died. In the 1891 census, James had his youngest sister Susanna staying with him and his daughter Adeline, while young George was staying in St. Andrews with his paternal grandparents.

In the 1901 census, James was staying in a lodging house in Glasgow, and his son and daughter were both with their grandmother Ann Logie, who was running a lodging house in Kirkwall.

Later in 1901, James married Maggie Kay Herdman in Glasgow. He died of tuberculosis in Cathcart, Renfrewshire, on 29th August, 1904.
