"Erected by Robert Burghar in memory of his mother Betsy Seatter who died 20 Sep 1893, aged 79. The above Robert Burghar died by drowning 11 December 1895, aged 52 years, the body not found." Elizabeth Seatter was the wife of Thomas Burgher They came from Westray to Cott around 1851. Thomas died in Kirkwall in 1859 and is buried in Westray. Their son, Robert Burgess / Burgar, married Elizabeth Hercus from Doggerboat and they lived at Cott. Robert was drowned in 1895, putting the factor's clerk over to Westray. The accident almost claimed the life of his son, William Burgar. | ||||||
